Description
DAVID BOWIE.
1971 Original release on Mercury records .
THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD.
THE DRESS COVER .
Here it is .
Penny start and NO RESERVE .
On its release here in England , nobody bought it , so the first original pressing was in tiny numbers .
After the success of Ziggy Stardust in 72 all the collectors wanted to track down original copies of Bowie`s back catalouge making this a desirable item .
By 1978 Bowie had transformed from a pop star to a worldwide rockstar and with that success ,the value of rareties and the demand for serious collectors items like this soared .
To meet the demand of the worlds most serious collectors , also in 1978, the Japs created a
fantastic forgery of this rare original LP.
Here are a few points to tell the forgery from the real thing .
1) The counterfeit has a sheeny texture to it , the original has a matt texture which is more defined, the colours on the counterfeit are much paler like the EMI/Rycodisc release who strangely used the counterfeit for the artwork !
2) The clock on the right hand side of the sleeve is hardly there on the counterfeit whereas the original has half the clock on it . Also Bowie`s foot goes right to the edge of the sleeve on the fake on the original there is a centimetre or so more sleeve- This is the usuall method in telling the two appart.
3) The countefeits back cover is very pale , again the original is a more defined grey .
4) The spine has Mercury, title and catalouge number running from right to left on the counterfeit whereas the original has them running from left to right . This is if you are holding the cover face up !
5) The inner sleeve is white on the counterfeit and grey on the original and I am talking about the ACTUAL sleeve NOT the paper inner sleeve !
6) The label on the counterfiet is a lighter black than the original, also the typeset on the counterfeit is thinner and taller , on the record labels near the date 1971 it also has an `R` circled rather than the proper `P`
other than that its a very good effort .
7) The matrix on the runout groove is larger on the counterfeit , not so well stamped and omits 420 from the numbers , additionally the matrix faces the label rather than pointing away from it as on the original .
There is a few other differences but thats plenty to tell the two appart .
Rest assured this is the ultrarare
original !
The sleeve of this original is in particularly good order . Due to the textured sleeve this LP tends to be a dirt magnate . This sleeve is spotlessly clean and the colours on the front are really bright and clean .
There is no wringwear which is unusuall for this item because the sleeve is very delicate so most of these have a lot of damage .The back of the sleeve is also in unusually good order . No creases or rips or unwanted handwriting anywhere .The only flaws on this sleeve is there is a small tear on the spine toward the middle there is also a tiny rub mark in the top right hand corner of the back of the sleeve .Other than these two small drawbacks this sleeve would be mint but because they exist it has to be VERY GOOD .
The record itself has a few hairlines only , other than that it is totally flawless ,I test played it a few times and it plays mint . Not the slightest fault , really enjoyable from start to finish.
So all in all I would grade this LP VERY GOOD ++
As you can see on the SUPERB black an silver record labels they spelt Visconti`s name wrong the spell it TONNY instread of the correct Tony !
If you have wanted this LP for some time but like so many cant bring yourself pay for it ...
Here is a real chance to own a BELTER , Plays mint and the sleeve is spotlessly clean with just two small flaws .
Penny start and NO RESERVE !
Take your time , double click the pictures and have a good look at the quality of this item ! The winner of this LP will be well pleased. Its in really great and totally acceptable condition !
A great oppertunity to own a really rare Bowie artifact .
Dont loose it for a single bid .
Its Christmas , YOU DESERVE IT.
