Aladdin Sane 3T/3T 1st Press + Fan Club Insert

This rare first press 'fan club' edition plays with wonderful audio except for some interference on just the one track.  It includes the original fan club insert which is complete and in excellent condition.

There are many light sleeve removal hairlines on this vinyl and S2 does have a couple of more obvious ones and a small mark also.  The hairlines are superficial and they do not affect the quality of the audio which for the majority plays to an excellent standard.  It is still in excellent condition and cleaner than many I have seen.

Play grading  

'Watch That Man' starts S1 with superb audio.  It plays with great clarity and there is no interference at all aside from a very minor amount of light static right at the end of the fade out.  The title track is highly impressive and belies its 45 years and again the only 'background' is a touch of mega light static on the fade out.  Hardly worth mentioning really as it is totally non-intrusive and only what you expect on a vinyl of this age.  Thus far there have been no clicks or pops and the audio is of a wonderful quality.  The three remaining tracks on this side play to the same high standard.  'Panic In Detroit' plays with a real dynamic quality and with no 'background'.  There is a little distortion on 'Cracked Actor' but this is common on this final track I find.  It's common on many albums where the grooves are often pressed closer together in order to 'fit' it on.  Apart from that it plays very well and with no 'background' on the fade out.

  The quiet intro on 'Time' has some very light static on the intro for a few seconds and there is also a little skip on the 'Falls...' line of the second verse.  It then plays very well until the quiet mid section where there is another small skip and a handful of intrusive clicks.  The rest of the track plays without incident and the quality is excellent, just a shame about the two areas of interference.  'The Prettiest Star' plays very well with no clicks but there is a little distortion on the top level.  I wouldn't say it intrudes on the quality of the listen though.  The long fade out has no 'background' at all.  'Let's Spend The Night Together' plays with stunning audio and easily grades as Near Mint the sonic quality is that good.  'The Jean Genie' is not far off that level but just has a little distortion on the top end.  This version of 'Lady Grinning Soul' is the most impressive I have heard in a long time.  The piano intro is stunning with only a couple of mega light dust ticks and as the vocal begins the clarity is astounding.  There is a minor amount of barely audible static in the middle and the remainder plays very clearly indeed.  The fade out plays with perfect precision and no 'background'.  A suitably impressive end to an album that plays with excellent audio for the vast majority bar the first track on this side.

The Gatefold

This has some general wear although nothing major.  The edges and wide spine are in fantastic condition with no rubbing and only the two right hand corners have a minimal amount of wear.  The predominantly white cover has a little fading here and there and a little mark on the back cover but overall it has retained its colour very well.  The opening edge has no handling wear at all.  An excellent of this iconic cover with only minor wear.

Lyric sleeve & Fan Club insert

The thick card lyric sleeve has no splits and is in excellent condition.  There is only a little fading/spotting in a couple of areas and some minor rubbing on the edges.  A little handling wear on the opening edge also.  The fan club insert with the printed signature is 100% complete and is in great order with only a small number of age related 'spots'.

The labels

The orange labels have hardly any spindle wear and no writing/marking - just a tiny amount of bubbling in a couple of places.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
