Description
I am almost 100% certain that I received this as a Christmas present in 1978 from a favorite relative. Long story as to how I remember that but if not '78, then '77 but I feel that year was Queen's "News of the World" as '79 for sure was Kiss 'Dynasty", '80 Queen The Game, etc....
Anyway, the point is that RCA for sure started using this black label in '77 AND every single repress of Aladdin Sane using the AYL1-3890 number that I have seen, has it printed on the cover with the phrase "previously released as AFL1-4852". This copy simply has an "RE" at the bottom AND a wrap sticker with the new catalog number. The actual printing using the new number and phrase dates to 1980 so with that and various fan discussions/reads/whatever....I have determined that: Bowie insisted on represses being denoted as such and RCA had yet to give it a new catalogue number at the time of printing hence the "RE" and subsequent wrap sticker AND my run-out etchings/stamps are as such:
A-side = AFL1-4852A stamped B-side = AFL1-4852B etched with A2 stamped
Therefore, the ones that say "previously released as AFL1-4852" with those numbers etched or stamped in the vinyl are technically, 3rd pressings.
The album is weird for a seven-year-old so it got played once, the end. Around the time of "Let's Dance" it may have seen a few more spins but not many. By the time I committed full-on to Bowie, the Ryko Clear Vinyl versions were out and so I bought those. In short, this vinyl has MAYBE been played a dozen times. Maybe. With the last being just now prior to this listing.
The vinyl looks and sounds fantastic! There isn't the first bit of noise! It looks and shines like it was made yesterday and plays through flawlessly on my turntable. There is a visible scuff on the first side (pictured) that has no feel to the touch and produces no sound disturbances.
The cover looks JUST as fantastic but zoom in on the very clear photos to check thoroughly. Light corner bumps as to be expected. If you need more, please ask!
The inner sleeve: I remember vividly trying to the pull this out upon opening and a little pinch of the inner pulled off. Turns out the thing was stuck into the gatefold crease and gave me trouble but once I finally got it free, the seams were split in spots and this little piece pinched off (clearly pictured). At seven-years old, I wasn't thinking about keeping the piece so that's where we are now and all this should be visible in the photos.
I've just committed to the Five Years box so this can now have a new loving home!
This will ship insured and there are ZERO returns unless it arrives to you markedly different than described and/or clearly damaged. In this unlikely event, pictures must be taken and a very speedy proactive claim towards the USPS filed ESPECIALLY if there are signs of damage to the box upon arrival at which point, take photos before opening.
