The searing, vicious title track to the album of the same name, "Diamond Dogs" finds David Bowie creating a rip into vacuous party/celebrity lifestyles that takes Aladdin Sane's "The Cracked Actor" to an even higher, smarter level. The introduction alone isn't merely one of Bowie's best but one of rock's best moments ever. Over a fake audience cheer, he shouts by way of announcement, "This ain't rock and roll...this is...GENOCIDE!" It's a shocking, effective start, a perfect lead-in to the glammy, Stonesy riff of the track. Bowie performs the guitars himself and does so just fine in the then-recent absence of Mick Ronson, a good sign. Meanwhile, the beginning of the lyric is even more bitterly hilarious -- "As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent/You asked for the latest party." His singing is sassy, less high-pitched than his Ziggy days, and meets the steady rocking groove of the song head-on and fits it perfectly. Tony Visconti's co-production with Bowie unsurprisingly nails it, as so much of their work together did, at once upfront and oddly distanced. Check out the hollow percussion hits leading up to the chorus or the heavily flanged guitar kept low but audible in the mix, not to mention the equally distorted vocals here and there.

We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).

RECORD GRADING POLICY
MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale
EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play
VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially affect play
VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.
VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.
VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.
Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like
Fair = you'?re getting this record just to own but not to play
Poor = the sky's the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
