FIRST ISSUE MATRIX: APL1 0576 A-1 / APL1 0576 B-1 (on both matrix sets the P is etched as an R and corrected by crossing out the lower portion of the R to make it into a P)
AND IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL MATTE GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH THE FIRST ISSUE FOLDED-UNDER AND FACTORY SEALED LEFT SIDE EDGE AND INTERNAL LYRICS TO 'Future Legend'

The record was Bowie's glam swan-song; according to author David Buckley, "In the sort of move which would come to define his career, Bowie jumped the glam-rock ship just in time, before it drifted into a blank parody of itself". At the time of its release Bowie described Diamond Dogs as "a very political album. My protest ... more me than anything I've done previously". Disc magazine compared the album to The Man Who Sold the World (1970), while Rock and Sounds both described it as his "most impressive work ... since Ziggy Stardust". It made #1 in the UK charts and #5 in the US (where the song "Rebel Rebel" proved popular), Bowie's highest stateside placing to that date.
Diamond Dogs' raw guitar style and visions of urban chaos, scavenging children and nihilistic lovers ("We'll buy some drugs and watch a band / And jump in the river holding hands") have been credited with anticipating the punk revolution that would take place in the following years. Bowie himself has described the Diamond Dogs, introduced in the title song, as: "all little Johnny Rottens and Sid Viciouses really. And, in my mind, there was no means of transport, so they were all rolling around on these roller-skates with huge wheels on them, and they squeaked because they hadn't been oiled properly. So there were these gangs of squeaking, roller-skating, vicious hoods, with Bowie knives and furs on, and they were all skinny because they hadn't eaten enough, and they all had funny-coloured hair. In a way it was a precursor to the punk thing."

VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN and are practically UNMARKED
VINYL Audio: BEAUTIFUL, DEEP, RICH SOUND - CRYSTAL CLEAR, SHARP, STRONG and incredibly IMMEDIATE - TREMENDOUS BASS RESPONSE ON THIS FIRST PRESSING. On playback at a very LOUD volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are NO jumps, NO sticks, NO scratches and barely any clicks/pops (hardly ANY, just a couple of very, very minor light 'ticks' at the end of "1984" - nothing really). The LP plays BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT to an extremely high standard with GREAT CLARITY, NO distortion and NO groove-wear (it's hardly, if ever, been played). Critically graded a NEAR MINT for audio this is an OUTSTANDING first press copy of a SENSATIONAL LP
SLEEVE: The sleeve is EXCELLENT++ CLEAN, CRISP and SHARP with NO edge/spine wear to speak of - just some light rubbing to the surfaces (very, very minor). Superb SHARP spine with all text CLEAR and BOLD. This is an extremely well preserved example of a very easily worn sleeve and one of the FRESHEST and CLEANEST I have seen in quite a while
