DAVID BOWIE
ORIGINAL 1972
CONCERT POSTER
This is an original concert poster for David Bowie`s Ziggy Stardust concert show at the Plymouth guild hall . RCA were not big on promoting their artists until the artist started to make real money for them. As this was only the 18 th concert of the tour, so really early days for Ziggy . This will have been one of the concerts that hardly anyone attended this was only April. Things never took of for Bowie with Ziggy Stardust until his appearance in September on Top of The Pops. Soon as that was seen the concerts started to sell out. To my knowledge this was the first poster used to promote the Ziggy Stardust tour, and that would make sense they never even used a shot of Ziggy! I bought this in 1981 from RARE RECORD COLLECTOR . That was a really cool market stall on the underground Market in Manchester city centre.
(Who remembers that stall ?) The guy that owned the stall told me he got it from a student studying at Manchester University. I had it on my wall for years when I lived at my mothers. I left in 1987 and it went in my attic for years. I decided to frame it about 20 years ago. It cost me £95 to frame this . Bet it would cost 3 or 4 times that today . It is framed with none reflective glass . I don`t like glare on pictures.
I had real difficulty locating paper that looked as old as the poster to do the description beneath the poster itself. I ended up at some printers in Manchester who did the description for me with the paper looking aged.
I think he did a very good job. Look at the ticket price 60 p . Those were the days !The poster has a few small creases along the top and thee is a crease in the right corner visible in the pictures , but this poster has been well used by me. And I have no idea what the Student did with it but it is still in very good condition.
I`m not posting this anywhere the winner can pick it up.
A penny start and NO RESERVE.
The dimensions of the poster are as follows:
WIDTH 14.5 inches. DEPTH 22 inches.
The dimensions of the frame are as follows:
WIDTH 21 inches. DEPTH 33 inches.
