This album, released by Capital Records in 1958, features Les Brown (1912-2001)  and his Band of Renown tackling one of Rodger and Hammerstein’s most popular  works, South Pacific (the original cast album of which has been posted on this  site). The musical hit Broadway nearly ten years prior. The film version  incidentally came out the same year as this album. This is not an official tally  but of all the records I have of arrangements of popular musicals, South Pacific  seems to be the most common source material. Really good record and very  dance-able music (at least in a 1958 sense) as the title would suggest . Brown  handles some of the arrangements of this disc. In other instances, guest such as  Frank Comstock, Sonny Burke, and Billy May among others contribute their  efforts. The result is a big band swing sound in fully effect.
