Description

Here is a beautiful copy of the very first UK pressing of David Bowie's iconic 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' on RCA from 1972 - a cornerstone of any rock music collection.
This is the ultra rare true first press with the earliest 1E/1E matrices and - just as significantly - this copy has barely been played. This is remarkable, as the music is so good, with most copies having been played over and over ...
All the various characteristics of the very first Ziggy Stardust pressing are present here, including no Mainman credit on the rear of the sleeve together with the Titanic/Chrysalis credits on the gorgeous glossy orange RCA labels.
The vinyl itself is also much thicker and heavier than later pressings and consequently playback is far superior.
This 1E/1E disc has to grade EX+. When carefully examined under strong light, it appears never to have been played. There is absolutely no indication that this disc has ever been near a turntable. There are NO marks whatsoever near the spindle holes and similarly NO untoward marks on either side of the vinyl itself. It looks factory fresh - amazing for a disc containing such fabulous music.
The iconic unlaminated single sleeve remains in strong EX- condition with unworn corners and unworn edges and only the slightest signs of any creasing although with the inevitable impression of the disc contained within (but no ringwear at all) and with just a small area of indentation which can only be seen when carefully angled to the light. All of the lengthy spinal text remains perfectly visible.
The printed inner sleeve, which also repeats the Titanic/Chrysalis and Gem Production credits from the outer sleeve and record labels, remains unsplit, and I have now placed the disc in a plain inner sleeve to ensure this custom inner remains unsplit. There is a little creasing and hard to see minor tears at the corners of the top opening of the inner.
Conditionwise, Ziggy Stardust is generally a victim of its own brilliance, with most copies invariably and understandably having been played to death. So here is a rare chance to acquire a hardly played copy with those sought after glossy labels and even more sought after 1E/1E matrices.
Good luck if you are bidding - I carefully pack vinyl using professional packaging and post with the disc removed from the sleeve to prevent knifing during transit.
