David Bowie - "David Bowie" - Rare original UK 1st pressing from 1969 on the Philips Records label LP and housed in its original unlaminated matt-textured gatefold sleeve with the song lyrics printed on the inside. Released on the black/silver text Philips Records label. A stereo recording, the disc comes in the original white poly-lined "British Patent No, made in England" inner sleeve. The album was recorded at Londons Trident Studio in June/September 1969 & produced by Tony Visconti and Gus Dudgeon.

On offer here from my personal archives, barely played during the near 40 years I have owned it, gatefold sleeve and vinyl are both in beautiful condition, is a very rare opportunity to obtain this Mega Rare Original UK Philips 1st Pressing of the classic 1969 released self-titled David Bowie LP!!

I am very happy to present one of the greatest David Bowie rarities, his self-titled original and only LP for Philips from 1969, the album that first gave us Space Oddity. Also later known as the 'Space Oddity' album, this great record was issued on the crest of the first (comparatively small) wave of success for David Bowie. It's kicked off by the excellent and enduring 'Space Oddity' - and here's something special, because it never sounded better than when heard on this album - and I've had several copies of the single.
It's beautiful in stereo, and on this superb near mint condition copy it just sounds spectacular, picking out instruments you can't notice on the single version.
Somewhere between rather convincing folk/singer-songwriter and progressive psych, Bowie sounds relaxed and confident about his art. The slightly acid-folk hippy edge in a song like 'Memory Of A Free Festival' really gives that sense of the late 60's freedom-for-all and shaking off the political cares and old moralities that stunted the growth of such musical expression for the previous generation.
Bowie had also shaken off his previous Tommy Steele/Anthony Newley leanings and put on his OWN coat of many colours, expressing his own art and style adeptly and convincingly.
A GREAT cover shot of David on the front too, with the psychedelic rear artwork illustrating the stories from the songs within!

One of the rarest and hardest David Bowie albums to track down....complete your collection NOW!

A Superb Original UK Philips Label 1st Pressing Of This Major David Bowie Rarity!!

CONDITION

Gatefold Sleeve: Excellent

The famous and beautiful unlaminated gatefold cover is solid, crisp and clean. The only real fault to report is a very small sticker removal mark on the front just to the one side of the Philips logo near the top right corner which has been neatly coloured in (please see photo no.9). There is only a little light wear to the corner tips, very minor shelf-wear on top/bottom seams, and a small amount of age related fading on the front near the bottom (I am being very picky but you need to know what you are buying). The spine is arrow straight and fully readable with only a few tiny specs of wear. Otherwise the sleeve has hardly any noticeable wear. Beside the afore-mentioned sticker mark there is no other unwanted writing on the sleeve, no splits, no rips and no tears, as is so often the case with this fragile gatefold cover. The inside of the gatefold sleeve features the printed song lyrics and is in virtually mint condition. The delicate, unlaminated, matt textured sleeve means that very few survive in such excellent condition as this copy. I would grade the sleeve a strong EXCELLENT. Overall a lovely example of this wonderful gatefold sleeve.

Poly-lined Inner Sleeve: Mint-

Original poly-lined inner sleeve with no rips, no tears, no writing....

Labels: Mint-

Both labels are very close to mint, clean and unmarked, with only a few spindle traces EVIDENT

Vinyl: Excellent (+)

The thick heavy vinyl retains its original shiny gloss and lustre, has only been played very, very few times from new!!! Just a few very faint wispy hairlines are barely visible under harsh lighting. The LP plays superbly throughout, with strong dynamic sound, and only the odd touch of surface static, nothing serious and nothing to spoil the listening experience. The record lays perfectly flat with no dishing. Both sides of this fantastic album still retain their original deep glossy black shine and full lustre. I have just played the whole album through on my very sensitive and revealing LINN SONDEK and the sound is full and crisp, there is NO loss of sound quality at all, great full sound stage and stereo seperation. The sound quality is NEAR MINT throughout - a WONDERFUL bright-sounding pressing! These HEAVY VINYL original late 60s UK Philips pressings are second to none. This is a lovely UK original PHILIPS pressing of the 1969 self-titled DAVID BOWIE LP that any collector would be delighted to add to their collection, a real KEEPER. It would be extremely difficult to find a significantly better original copy of this highly sought after LP!

Absolutely NO pops, NO clicks, NO sticks, NO jumps, NO nasty noises are audible...The LP plays superbly throughout!!!

Notes

This is your chance to own an original 1969 UK 1st pressing of David Bowie's classic 2nd LP issued on Philips SBF 7912.

This record was issued on Philips for a relatively short time before then being reissued on the RCA Victor label, just before Bowie's career then took off. Of course this very famous rare album has a totally different cover to the more widely known and common RCA version. The beautiful gatefold cover makes this magnificent rarity extra special, the back especially is gorgeous with wonderful artwork, known as ‘The Depth of a Circle’ (please see the back cover picture). Not only that, this original issue has an extra short song that follows track two. It's known as ‘Don't Sit Down’ and lasts approximately 40 seconds, it was dropped from the RCA version, so yet another major reason this original is so sought after. This ‘extra’ gets no mention on label or sleeve.

Without doubt .... a mega rarity..... it rarely turns up on eBay !!

This album simply flopped big time. So this can justifiably be called rare, because that's simply what it is, and with the actual record in this stunning excellent + near mint condition, makes it a copy that goes beyond even rare. Everybody of course knows the classic single from this, ‘Space Oddity’, all the other songs are magnificent too, great vocals and lyrics. Bowie plays 12 string guitar, stylophone, kalimba, rosedale electric chord organ. It was produced by Tony Visconti.
It comes in a beautiful matt-textured gatefold sleeve, with the lyrics printed on the inner gatefold.

On offer here, from my own collection, is a SUPERB original copy of this legendary and SUPER RARE ORIGINAL PHILIPS LABEL 1969 UK 1st PRESSING of the self-titled DAVID BOWIE LP, housed in it's stunning unlaminated matt-textured gatefold sleeve. Highly collectable early David Bowie LP in magnificent condition. I have owned this classic LP for 40 years and during that time it has only been played very few times and always carefully looked after!!

This is without doubt one of the rarest David Bowie LP's and is easily among his most sought after, hardly ever shows up for sale these days, especially in such great condition as this copy is in!! This is quite possibly a unique opportunity to add this monster rare album to your collection, so don't let it go, it will be a long time before another one shows up (if at all) the winner will not be disappointed. You can bid with complete confidence.
