Description
I think this may be one of the best, original, first-press copies ever offered on ebay of the brilliant Ziggy Stardust LP by DAVID BOWIE! I know that’s a big claim to make and I don’t make it lightly!
I've analysed Popsike, Discogs, eBay etc. This album, as is well known, was issued with a thin and flimsy unlaminated card sleeve that was very prone to wear; it is often found with pronounced ringwear.
Well…not only does this one not have any discernible ringwear front or back, it’s also a true first press. This can be established by the following characteristics:
- it has glossy labels (which are unmarked);
- it has the 1E / 1E matrix (stamped);
- there’s no mention of Mainman anywhere;
- the colour of the rubbish pile (if that's what it is) in the bottom right corner of the front is very light (it changed on later pressings to a blueish tint, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, Bowie collectors);
- the RCA VICTOR logo at the top right is indented from the open edge;
- the text is blurred;
- the record contains the apparently now-lost ‘Loud Cut’ of Starman (before the master tape was damaged);
- Suffragette City appears without sound dropout;
- the 'S' and the 'F' in the catalogue number are misaligned;
- and so on and so forth…
More importantly, however, the vinyl is excellent! I have examined it very closely under bright light and with magnification and I can see only a few fine hairline surface marks on either side. They are light and 'wispy' and in no way affected playback, which was exemplary on my system. Please note: what look like marks on the vinyl are just relections of window blinds. THEY ARE NOT ON THE VINYL! It's a trick of the light.
Quiet tracks like Rock 'n' Roll Suicide and Five Years are notorious for their sometimes poor playback, even on good-condition vinyl. This LP played near-perfectly on my set-up and without any extraneous sound, even in the quiet tracks. It was a real pleasure to listen to it.
I got this from the same source as a 2nd press HUNKY DORY and a still-sealed LODGER that I sold recently on eBay; please check out my selling history for an idea of both their quality and of the quality of this LP.
But anyway…I can sit here and type all kinds of hyperbolic shite about this in an attempt to sell it. I believe it will sell itself. I think the photos tell a better story so please have a good look. I have photographed this every which way. I’ll let the pictures do the talking (notwithstanding my basic photography skills). There is, of course, my usual no-questions-asked money-back guarantee if the buyer is not satisfied in any way with the item. Please note that the corner photos are extremely close up. Any marks visible are barely noticeable in 'real life' and quite insignificant.
Ultimately, of course, my views and my analysis of the record, both visually and aurally, are subjective. You may buy it and find some marks that I've missed; or you may hear something that I didn't (I've only played it once; I don't want to risk it getting scratched or whatever). Once again, if you feel it has been over-graded, or misrepresented, or you have a £50,000 Hi-Fi System that is brutally unforgiving, I will refund the purchase price without question (upon receipt by me of the item in the condition in which it was sent to the buyer).
This will only be sent by a Signed-For service: in the UK by Recorded Delivery as a minimum; if the buyer wants, it can be sent Guaranteed Next Day Delivery. I'm sure we can come to a mutually satisfactory arrangement.
Outside the UK, either Airsure (where applicable) or International Signed-For will be used for postage.
It will be sent in super-strong packaging (the packing will be at no cost to the buyer).
Please feel free to search popsike.com (or any other similar website you fancy) for other copies of this crucial work. And then ask yourself: how long since one as good as this one turned up? How long until one turns up again? I think we know the answer…this is an investment piece whose importance, influence and value will only increase over time. It’s not only a great rock LP in its own right; it is, quite simply, a profound and seminal cultural artefact and work of art by a genius. And I'm not even a Bowie fan!
Please read the descriptions and look at the photos. This should give a comprehensive indication of the condition of the item. I try not to over-grade. See the photos; there’s nothing to hide! Or see my feedback…
I provide a full, no-questions-asked, money-back guarantee on all items I sell. If you aren't satisfied with the item for any reason I will refund your money when I receive the item back in the condition in which it was posted to the buyer.
I photograph everything after packing and before posting so no-one can claim I mailed it smashed, bent, warped or otherwise damaged. It is posted in the condition in which it is presented here!
If you have any questions, just ask and I will answer as best I can. Thank you.
All items are sent properly and strongly packaged in a mailer with a protective outer plastic sleeve, corrugated inner stiffeners, and a poly-lined paper inner sleeve.
