GILMOUR'S FIRST solo opus away from the security of the Floyd. Amazingly he stays true to form with the majority of the album sounding not unlike Pink Floyd outtakes from say, the Division Bell which isn't such a surprise when you consider it was almost a Gilmour solo album anyway. This is a great album full of melodic richness, gloriously slurred vocals in his typical dreamy style and, of course, loads of beautiful lead guitar work; thick never ending sustain, like droplets of golden honey exploding in slow motion.
Recorded as a three piece with Willie Wilson on drums and bassist Rick Wills. Both were, of course, a member of Gilmour's first Cambridge based combo Joker's Wild. Wills would later go on to play with Peter Frampton and Foreigner among many others.
Some great tracks here including a cover version of a track called 'There's No Way Out Of Here' originally recorded by obscure British prog rockers Unicorn (whom Gilmour actually produced).
A great and totally overlooked masterpiece in the great Floyd tapestry.
Back cover displays a rare 'Factory Sample NOT FOR SALE' sticker.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Harvest, UK, 1978
Vinyl: Top clean and shiny condition - I would say unplayed. No spindle marks and no other signs of use. Grades as an immaculate shop fresh MINT!
Cover: No visible signs of use. Issued in a beautifully designed (by Hipgnosis) gate-fold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is stiff, square and totally uncrushed. Impossible to find like this 41 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT! You'll never find better.
