Fabulous 3-record opera box, mastered in England by Decca. Stampers on the six sides are 3G, 3G, 6G, 8G, 4G and 4G, respectively. Dutch pressing with purple and silver narrow band label. All of the LPs are MINT and appear unplayed. Surfaces         are smooth and retain their original lustre. There is no sign of spider tracery           around any of the spindle holes. The box is MINT. The illustrated booklet and            libretto are MINT and spotlessly clean.

For opera lovers who think only English Decca pressings are worth having, you're mistaken. Connoisseurs of Decca cutting will recognize the "G" in the 'dead wax' of this set as code for Ted Burkett, who was Decca's foremost operatic cutter. His work was invariably impeccable. While the mastering for Decca was always done in England, the pressings during the mid to late 1970s were often made in Holland and are preferable to their English counterparts. They typically equal, or prove superior   to, the later British issues in terms of immediacy, purity and transparency. The sonic advantages are much more pronounced. In short, the Dutch are usually better and sometimes the very best.

Recorded in 1975 at Cleveland's Masonic Auditorium, this is actually the first complete performance of Porgy & Bess on record, and it puts all other recordings       in the dark. Lorin Maazel brings out the electrifying drama of the work in this masterful production with its brilliant sound. At last Gershwin's great music and      set pieces can be heard and enjoyed in their full and proper context. You'll find the opera on the lists of Arthur Salvatore and TAS. This box set is an absolute must for opera lovers and audiophiles alike! It's that simple.
