Deee-Lite arrive here - or rather did when this album arrived in 1990 - like they've stumbled out of a downtown New York club with glitter still stuck to their shoes, the trio pulling together house, funk and pop into something that feels less assembled than joyfully thrown into motion. 'Good Beat' opens with a clipped, buoyant rhythm, drums snapping into place while bass pops in short, rounded bursts, everything angled toward the floor. 'Groove Is In The Heart' leans into that elastic funk swing, Bootsy Collins' bassline bouncing with a rubbery lift while horns stab in bright, tightly arranged hits. 'E.S.P.' stretches things slightly, synths sliding in smoother, longer phrases, though the pulse never loosens its grip.
