Deep Purple : Come Taste The Band A1/B1 First Press

This first pressing plays with superb audio and only the one click on S2.  There is the bare minimum of static and the vast majority plays with wonderful clarity and depth.

Of course this is the only album to feature Tommy Bolin on guitar following Blackmore's departure and also the last to feature Coverdale and Hughes.

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only a little wear on the spine and the lyric inner is in very good order overall.

Visual grading

The vinyl is visually stunning and has no marks or scratches at all.  All I can detect are a handful of very faint hairlines and they are difficult to find anyway!  There is some spindle wear so has been played a number of times but it has always been very carefully handed and well looked after.  One look and 'play' of the vinyl confirms that!  It also retains a beautiful glossy sheen and mega clean run out grooves.

Play grading  

With no lead in static on the run in grooves you immediately know this is a very 'clean' vinyl.  'Rockin' from the word go ! the intro on 'Comin' Home' plays superbly with only one faint tick.  It then proceeds to play with tremendous power and no interference, not even a dust tick.  The fade out is perfect also.  A Mint- start.  'Lady Luck' and 'Gettin' Tighter' are of the same standard with only a minimal amount of light static at the end of each fade out.  The clarity is superb and there is no distortion either.  'Dealer' has a little static on the intro, certainly not loud, and then plays with stunning power and depth, it could not play any better and Bolin's work near the end is so strong.  'I Need Love' ends the side with audio that quite simply plays 'as new' from start to finish.  The audio on this side is so impressive and it's rare to find clarity such as this on a genuine first press.  The fade out here plays to near perfection..

'Drifter' has only a couple of seconds of light static on the intro and then plays with a deep, rich and powerful sound that has no interference of any kind.  A stunning version.  'Love Child' again has only the bare minimum of mega light static on the intro and then fantastically well with only a couple of very quiet static ticks at the end.  'This Time Around' plays with great clarity and only a little static every now and then.  I sit much closer to the speakers than the 'ordinary' listener would so as to pick up any nuance and this static really is very much in the background and totally non-intrusive.  The playback on this track is still extremely impressive and there are no clicks or pops.  The instrumental that follows 'Owed to 'G' qualifies as Mint- as there is no interference whatsoever.  The quiet intro on 'You Keep Moving' is so 'clean' but after 10 seconds or so there is some minor static which is just a little louder just prior to the vocal.  There is also one click just after the second line but from that point on it plays with great power and definition and no other interference.  The final quiet section towards the end is very 'clean' and Bolin's solo work at the end is so dynamic and has no distortion.  A superb ending without question.

In summary this first pressing plays with wonderful audio for the vast majority and with only one click and a minimal amount of static.  As stated the vinyl is very clean and you won't find many better!  A very impressive record.

The Gatefold

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only a little wear on the spine really.  The edges are in superb shape with no rubbing and only the two bottom right corners have a minimal amount of wear.  The laminate has on the spine has worn away in part but very little of the 'lettering' has been affected.  The opening edge has no handling wear whatsoever and the front cover is in lovely condition with no laminate splits or marking.  The back cover is very clean but you can see a little wear next to the spine top right and a minor crease bottom left.  The laminated interior is 'as new' with no marking of any kind.  A fine example overall apart from the wear to the spine which isn't major anyway.

Lyric Inner

This does have a little wear but the front and back are actually very clean with no marking.  There is a small tear on the top edge on the back and one small side split also.  The bottom edge has a rough feel but there is no actual split.  There is barely any creasing and yes there is a little wear but at least it's here and not trashed like so many!

The Labels

They are in great condition with no marking or writing and not too much spindle wear.
