Here for offer we have the 1969 original true first U.S. pressing of Deep Purple’s rock/classical album “Concerto For Group And Orchestra” on Tetragrammaton Records. A lot of people think this album was originally released on Warner Bros. in 1970, but the version on Tetragrammaton is the true first release. Shortly after this album came out in late 1969, Tetragrammaton went under, and Warner Bros. acquired all their assets, which is how Deep Purple ended up on Warner Bros., and how this album was subsequently reissued by them, and the reason people think it first came out through them (that, and the Tetragrammaton version wasn’t in print for very long and wasn’t as common as a result).
The gatefold jacket is in VG+ condition due to slight ringwear and storage wear, but nothing that seriously detracts from the cover. Colors are still vibrant, all text is legible and the spine is straight. There are no tears or splits. Inner gatefold is very nice. Considering its age, this cover presents very well. The vinyl (which was pressed by Monarch Records) is in VG+ condition, mainly due to sleeve marks and a few light scratches on side one that don’t affect play. I have play tested this record and it sounds good for its age, and could possibly sound even better with a deep cleaning.
There is currently a copy of this pressing on discogs for ridiculous money, and it’s not in as good of condition as this one is. And a lot of the pressings listed here on eBay as “first pressings” aren’t. So don’t be fooled. This one is the real deal.
