MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original second STEREO press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1974 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales ODEON S.A. (Odeon Records), licensed from Purple Records Ltd., catalog number SLDC-36895, with hand etched matrix numbers TPSA-7504 A. 11 A. AUAD R. (name of the stamper?) in Side A and TPSA 7504 B 13 in Side B. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER GREAT FIND from Chile!!! And what a SUPERB CONDITION!!!

“MACHINE HEAD” was originally released in 1972 but we have to wait until 1974 to see this great record released here in Chile and we got it like many cases of that period with an UNIQUE COVER!!! Yes!!! In Chile the very first press it’s a “gatefold” cover made with single sheets of cardboard for front, back and inners covers kept held by an outer plastic bag which’s also part of the cover and which you can also see in my auctions. But in this auction I’m offering the also ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND second press with a laminated gatefold cover, made with 3 single pieces of cardboard, one of them for front and back cover, the other for the left non-laminated inner cover and the other for the right non-laminated inner cover, which’s the side where the mouth edge is. Front, back and inner covers keep the original UK artwork with album title and tracklist written in English only but in inner covers all the credits and additional text are written in Spanish only. At the bottom of back cover it’s written in Spanish “Marca Registrada. Fabricado Y Distribuido por Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon, S.A. Casilla 186-D-Santiago (Chile) (1974) En Chile” (Trademark. Made And Distributed By…), with Chilean catalog number centered at the right edge of back cover. In labels the album title and the tracklist are written in English only but all the credits are written in Spanish only. It’s interesting to see a boxed stamp “SERIE DE LUXE” on the tracklist in inner cover, sure this kind of laminated cover was “Deluxe” compared with the very first press. And you can also see that in this second Chilean issue the labels have a different design, with a different smaller font and songs combined in different lines (in very first press the songs are one per line), but the most interesting fact to notice is that song “Highway Star”, correctly written in cover it’s misspelled “HICHWAY Star”. Yes Sirs, AMAZING FIND from Chile again with UNIQUE COVER, “DELUXE” stamped and with UNIQUE ERROR!!! One of the rarest press of “Machine Head” worldwide!!! WOW!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in VG+ or EX- condition, clean and clear, no missing parts, light ring marks, no writings, minimal creases, general wear in all edges, more evident in corners, with a little seam split at bottom edge in the side of the mouth edge, with the mouth edge taped for some past owner, sure to prevent damages, but complete and solid as you can see in the pictures. The record is in superb VG- or VG condition both sides, glossy, clean and clear, but with loads of scuffs, hairlines and light scratches of all sizes and in all directions, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in EX+ or NM- condition, clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole wear and some light age browning in the “P”. The sound is in strong VG+ or EX- condition both sides, clear, clean and loud, virtually no background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), with some constant crackles and light occasional pops here and there, which don’t cause major distraction form the great sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, maybe this record could not to be for Minty minds or audiophiles but you already know that Chilean issues of “Machine Head” are A MUST TO HAVE, a MEGARARE record with an UNIQUE GATEFOLD COVER which’s a real rarity and this time you have the chance to get a great copy with still a nice clean cover, a glossy look of the record and more than decent and respectable sound quality after 41 years which won’t disappoint anyone!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE ERROR!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

SHIPPING (Packing and Postage)

We have an unique value worldwide: 

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

GBP25 for weight 1-2kg (usually 3-5 records 12")

GBP7 for one 7” record

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
