Deep Purple's Made In Japan has long stood as one of the great live rock albums, taped over three nights in Osaka and Tokyo in August 1972, just as the band's Mk II lineup was peaking with Machine Head fresh out. Less a slick best-of set, they stretched more into marathon versions - 'Highway Star' hits fourteen minutes, from space caterwauls to round-robin riffs, and 'Space Truckin' nearly twenty - and those elongated jams became as defining as the studio takes. First released in 1972, the record has been remastered and repackaged many times, but here it receives a full remix by Steven Wilson, who has become the go-to figure for reworking classic rock archives, from Jethro Tull to King Crimson.
