From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the brilliant studio album by DEEP PURPLE titled “WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE!”, Catalogue Number TPSA 7508. This is an ORIGINAL 1973 UK 1st PRESSING on the PURPLE RECORD LABEL with a near perfect 1st issue laminated Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve. This copy comes complete with the elusive Lyric Insert and the correct white poly-lined inner sleeve. [The record labels have “THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD...” text around the tops. The Matrix Numbers are the earliest A-1U/B-1U and ‘PORKY’ and ‘PURPLE PECKIE’ is etched in the run-outs of Sides 1 and 2 respectively, indicating the work of George Peckham the master cutting engineer].
The fully-laminated gatefold sleeve, printed and made in Great Britain by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd., is in EX+/MINT- condition with virtually no wear or creasing of any significance (just a few tiny laminate creases near the edges). You can see from the photos that this is a near perfect sleeve which will be almost impossible to improve upon.
The top quality Purple record is very solidly pressed and retains its just pressed shine. Visually both sides are in EX+ condition with the exception of a couple of superficial surface marks on Side 1. These are only cosmetic and do not cause any audio problems whatsoever. The beautiful Purple labels are unmarked with only 1 or 2 faint spindle traces each side. There is no wear around the spindle hole.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:
This is a particularly loud-cut and vibrant recording with outstanding sound quality. Both sides play essentially as new with no deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. If you are looking for that elusive perfect playing 1st pressed copy – look no further.
The Lyric Insert is in unmarked EX condition.
The correct white poly-lined inner sleeve is also in EX condition.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.
PACKAGING
Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
