Welcome To

CRAIG CHASE VINYL

Don ("ccvinylman") Larter, Owner

General Policies
    1. Honest, conservative play-grading, using a strong light, high-quality stereo equipment and Goldmine standards. I emphasisize the soundof the record rather than the appearance of either the vinyl or the jacket (though appearance istaken into account):
    • Sealed= Unopened and unplayed; condition unknown
    • NM+= Near Mint Plus. Extraordinarily clean and quiet; may not have been played
    • NM= Near Mint. Clean and quiet, regardless of scuffs or apparent defects
    • NM-= Near Mint Minus. Less quiet than NM, with a bit more background noise regardless of its source.
    • VG++= Very Good Plus Plus. More noise than NM-, but still highly listenable. I will specify the defects.
    • VG+= Very Good Plus. Good deal of background noise, but no deep scratches and no skipping. Still highly listenable.
    2. Professional cleaning of virtually every record and sleeve sold, by using proprietary methods that are extremely gentle and effective on records.
    3. Fair dealing, prompt and friendly communication, and speedy delivery.
    4. Re-listing, at half-price or less, of some items that do not sell during their first listing.
    5. A no-questions-asked return policy if our play-grades differ significantly.
    6. Posting of positive feedback for high bidders who pay in a timely fashion (or who email me saying why they do not); posting of negative feedback for high bidders who do not pay in a timely fashion and do not communicate why.

    NEW LISTING!

    Item Description

    • Label/Data: Columbia: D7S 610, seven stereo records, 6-eye label, deluxe cloth-bound box with hard spine.
    • Description: There is a good deal of competition among sets of Beethoven's complete symphonies simply because there are so many of them! Each set has its adherents. I myself am partial to Karajan's 1962 set and a set put out by Readers Digest (!) conducted by Rene Leibowitz. Great stuff!

The set up for auction is also one of my favorites. Bruno will surprise you here and there, but then all conductors will, I guess. One of the many great things about this set is the uniformity of the hall sound, which is close to being ideal, with great depth and separation of stereo image. At its best, stereo ought to make you feel almost as if you are in the auditorium listening to the symphonies "live". This one does just that.

    • Condition of LP(s):
    • Visual grade: In order of records, 1-7 (only one grade if both sides are the same grade): NM-/VG+; VG++; NM-/VG++; NM-/VG++; VG++; NM-; VG++. Some fairly obvious scuffing on record one. Play grade: In order of records, 1-7 (only one grade if both sides are the same grade): NM-/VG++; NM-; NM-/VG++; NM-; NM-; NM-; NM-. Near Mint Minus seems to be in a majority here. This set has been played a few times, and record one, side two has scuffs that do cause intermittent and low-level ticking. This set, I have found, even in almost-new condition, is nota super-quiet set, so a set that has had some play, albeit careful play, is certainly not going to sound better having been played. Make sense? (If not, please email me.)
    • Condition of Jacket/Box: Good. Spine is clean but beginning to split a little. Gold-edged box is beginning to bow out at top and bottom, and there is a little fraying of the cloth corners. I can't recall if there should be a booklet with this set or not; I assume there should, and this set does not. The charcoal drawing of Bruno Walter is also not a part of this set. I do recall that's being a part of the last set I sold.
