THIS IS THE US ORIGINAL PRESSING on WB Records. GATEFOLD COVER + LITTLE HYPE STICKER + 180GR. The cover is in EX condition: normal wear and without any deterioration BUT light discolouration/wear on corners, sticker mark on rear (top right corner); INSIDE PANELS in great condition; left spine is fully readable; please for details see photos. The vinyls in EX condition (look unplayed or barely played).
DEVENDRA BANHART
With an effortless and magical songwriting style and a quivering croon, Devendra Banhart was a key player in the freak folk movement of the early 2000s. Cross-referencing the woodland mystique of T. Rex-era Marc Bolan with emotionally rich and often surprisingly vulnerable lyricism, Banhart's poetic, acoustic songs grew from the intimate lo-fi of early critically acclaimed albums like 2004’s Rejoicing in the Hands to the more polished recordings and experiments with styles, arrangements, and instrumentation on genre-hopping albums like 2007's Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon and stylistically varied excursions like 2019's Ma or 2023's Flying Wig, an electronics-centered album created in collaboration with Cate Le Bon.

Setting aside the grand orchestrations of Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, Devendra Banhart's What Will We Be is everything its predecessor was not: straight-forward, cleanly produced, consistently laid-back (to nearly Jack Johnson proportions), and free of ambition. Banhart enlists the same band as last time (Noah Georgeson, Greg Rogove, Luckey Remington, and Rodrigo Amarante), but hired production whiz Paul Butler, whose records with A Band of Bees are some of the most striking productions of the 2000s. The double-tracked vocals give the album the same air as Banhart's early four-track experiments, but there's no haunted quality, just an occasional hippie-dippie aside in his delivery. Recorded in Northern California, What Will We Be often has the same slacker sensibilities and scent of ocean breeze that Jack Johnson has made his name with (read: funky white-bread basslines and closely miked drums played with plenty of whisk). Banhart's persona emerges intact despite the mainstream sound, however, and What Will We Be becomes a pleasantly fresh album to follow the ponderous, sprawling Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon…(AllMusic)
