DEXTER GORDON "BLOWS HOT AND COOL" (DOOTONE DL-207) (1956-7) 2ND PRESSING.
This is NOT the original first-pressing (red vinyl, very expensive) but, BUT this is the 2nd Pressing that has everything the first one has- same front and reverse; same recorded tracks on arguably better sounding vinyl (sensitive red vinyl of first pressing versus more warmth of the black vinyl version); In any case, extraordinary hard to find typically, this icon jazz LP may be the more reasonable alternative to finally owning this early 1956 Dexter Gordon jazz date. For the those unfamiliar to this jazz LP or just getting started collecting rare jazz LPs do some online research to familarze yourself with the history of pressing as well as Gordon's discography history - arguably best iconic jazz LP ever pressed on the defunct and small west coast Dootone Records of South Central Ave, Los Angeles CA.
Vinyl: VG to VG- (plays with no skips plays with superficial marks and lines typical of this grade; nonetheless and enjoyable full volume record Please note, does play as grade suggest with background noise but not overpowering the listening experience. Each track here is pure Killer! Historic LP.
** played on my vintage Thorens through both Side A & B. "Warm" sound playback; Solid Bass line throughout 'pops and crackles' too but not overwhelming--, clear Dexter sax coming through my Klipsch speakers--a real swing set!!! with defined instrumentation that punches through--plays with, as noted surface noise but in no way overpowers this dynamic playback here.. again each track just kills..Solid pressing with lots of playback time!!!
Cover: VG- (seam splits- otherwise NO writing and clean front and backside! with time and careful restoration tape and its residue can be removed and cover restored.. the coolest jazz picture perhaps ever produced by this seminal figure in jazz)
