The title of this Blue Note set, Doin' Allright, fit perfectly at the time, for tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon was making the first of three successful comebacks.
Largely neglected during the 1950s, Gordon's Blue Note recordings (of which this was the first) led to his rediscovery.
The tenor is teamed with the young trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, pianist Horace Parlan, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Al Harewood for a strong set of music that is highlighted by "You've Changed" (which would become a permanent part of Gordon's repertoire), "Society Red" (a blues later used in the film Round Midnight), and "It's You or No One."

LABELS: EXCELLENT+
Clean, bright and unmarked labels with moderate spindle rash.
There are two UK import/tax duty stamps on the Side One label
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT+
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen with just some light hairlines and one superficial mark (very minor) - there are no scratches or anything which interferes with playback.
This copy has clearly been very well cared for
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Sensational sound performance - crystal clear, clean, fresh and incredibly immediate with a fantastic loud cut.
My play-check at loud volume revealed no audio issues of note and the whole set plays beautifully throughout with no scratches, no loud clips or pops, no surface noise/crackle and no evident groove-wear or distortion
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The front laminated thick card sleeve is also in great shape with very little wear to speak of - clean, unmarked and solid with no splits.
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Not the original but a contemporary UK early 60s EMI poly-lined inner.
Probably replaced by the original owner to give the record more protection than the Blue Note original as this one is lined
