Description

DEXTER GORDON - GO

A sparingly played and overall excellent condition copy of this 1962 US original jazz rarity with superb audio quality throughout

Year/Label : 1962 US BLUE NOTE Label number : BLP 4112 Matrix numbers :  BN-LP-4112 A, BN-LP-4112 B (with "VAN GELDER" stamped and Plastylite "ear" etched onto both run-offs)
Excellent (EX) condition vinyl - weighty and completely flat, and displaying a beautiful jet black sheen - in normal daylight both sides of the vinyl come across as completely unmarked and even with close scrutiny under a bright light it remains difficult to identify any marks though I did eventually manage to locate two very light 1.5 cm scuff lines on side 1 along with just a couple of small and extrmely wispy surface hairlines - each purely superficial of course and nothing here to impinge upon the wonderful sound quality. I have no reservation whatsoever in grading the condition of this vinyl as a solid "excellent". Note the 1st press stamped "VAN GELDER" and the etched Plastylite "ear" on each of the run-off's - indicative of US very 1st pressings.  Excellent (EX) condition labels : not quite perfect because there is just a little area of very light colour "smudging" towards the circumference of the side 2 label (see photo - quite common on these early 1960's Blue Note pressings) and an even lighter line mark on the side 1 label (only visible when the record is held to the right angle in the right light) but apart from that unmarked with not even a single spindle trail in sight! Note the 1st press "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC  NEW YORK USA" label text.  Clearly this is a record that has been only sparingly played and well looked after.   Excellent (EX) condition original thick cardboard outer sleeve.  Firm edges with barely any scuffing, nicely defined right angled corners with minimal rubbing on each and some very minor compression on the bottom left corner, impressively rigid spine with all spine text remaining fully intact, no unwanted writing or tears or cardboard creasing, and all reverse side text perfectly intact. The only blemishes are the merest hint of some age discolouration towards the front-side top edge, a few very minor and very light storage/handling surface marks (negligible) and two very small brown spots towards the middle of the reverse side bottom edge. Take a good look at my photos where I have tried to show a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this iconic sleeve - hard to believe that this copy is 64 years of age...it remains impressive, highly presentable and undoubtedly defies it's age!  Wonderful, truly excellent (EX) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion, interference or background crackle and the only clicks are three random and very light clicks on side 2 for which I could find no obvious cause - probably down to the odd speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage. Wonderful tone and clarity -  crystal clear MONO sound quality throughout with each and every track remaining a great listen, and no wonder with these jazz legends in top form : Dexter Gordon (tenor sax), Sonny Clark (piano), Butch Warren (bass), and Billy Higgins (drums).  Comes in plain white poly-lined inner sleeve.    A brilliant copy of this 1962 US 1st press jazz rarity with the great condition sleeve and wonderful sound quality being real highlights.
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £3.38 using Royal Mail tracked 48 (ebay's "simple delivery");

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits.
