"SPOON SINGS 'N' SWINGS" - - JIMMY WITHERSPOON 7 THE DICK MORRISSEY QUARTET - - FONTANA TL 5382 - - MAGNIFICENT COPY OF THIS ROARING ALBUM, RECORDED AT LONDON'S GREAT JAZZ VENUE, "THE BULL'S HEAD" AT BARNES, MAY 23rd, 1966 !!!! - - The jacket is a STRNG EX+ grading, with superb seams corners and spine, which but for a small neat sticker and tiny initial to the reverse top corner, would certainly warrant a NM grade !!! - - The disc and labels are gleaming, showing VERY light use, having probably been played only a couple of times and is probably closer to NM than EX++ !!! - - This is one explosive combination, with the big voice of "Spoon", plus the raoring accompaniment of Dick's masssive tenor work and his quartet !!! - - I recall with great affection, the many times I have had the pleasure and privilege of having discussed this album with Dick Morrissey and he himself, rates this as some of his finest tenor work on record, which of course once you have heard it, I'm sure you'll agree, it is truly AWESOME !!! - - The set opens, with a mega version of "I gotta girl", where you will notice that Spoon, who obviously loved the spotlight, gives way to a mind blowing long solo from Dick that just roars !!! - - With Harry South's excellent piano, Phil Bates on bass and the legend that is Phil Seamen on drums, the tone is set for the rest of the set and proves to be a delight thru every note !!! - - You will find it hard to find as nice a copy as this one, don't let it get by you, it is now extremely difficult to find and rarely in this condition !!! - - Started as usual with no reserve and a very low start price, let me thankyou for your interest and wish you good luck in your bidding - - £24.99
