TWO SUPERB BLUES SIDES ON THIS MEGA RARE ORIGINAL MELOTONE 78 FROM FLOYD "DIPPER BOY" COUNCIL IN REALLY EXCELLENT CONDITION

Floyd Council (September 2, 1911 – May 9, 1976) was an American blues guitarist and singer. He became a well-known practitioner of the Piedmont blues sound from that area, popular throughout the southeastern region of the US in the 1930s.

Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to Harrie and Lizzie Council, Floyd began his musical career on the streets of Chapel Hill in the 1920s, performing with two brothers, Leo and Thomas Strowd as "The Chapel Hillbillies". He recorded twice for ARC at sessions with Blind Boy Fuller in the mid-thirties, all examples of the Piedmont style.

Syd Barrett, of English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, came up with the band's name by juxtaposing the first names of Floyd Council and South Carolina bluesman Pink Anderson. The curious Pink Floyd fan that seeks out the recordings of these men will find gritty Black blues, which – while not relevant to rock and roll – is unfamiliar to most modern music fans. Lest we forget, however, the likes of John Mayall, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and Syd Barrett cherished this music, and it is an important root of modern rock.

Floyd occasionally worked with Blind Boy Fuller in the ‘30s, which may have led to his first recording sessions.

In late January 1937 ACR Records scout John Baxter Long heard him, playing alone on a street in Chapel Hill. It was Long who had first brought Fuller to NYC to record in July 1935. Much of his released record material is as a backing guitarist to Blind Boy Fuller and these great solo recordings are very hard to find.
