Mark Knopfler's penchant for cynical characters is further developed on tracks like "Where Do You Think You're Going" and "News," while the presence of Jerry Wexler at the production helm ensures that the rest of the band keeps the rhythms extra tight.   MAKING MOVIES Dire Straits' third release, 1980's Making Movies, features several epic cuts that stand among Mark Knopfler's finest work. On Making Movies, Dire Straits began to move away from its roots rock origins into a jazzier variation of country-rock and singer/songwriter folk-rock storytelling. Featuring "Romeo and Juliet," "Tunnel of Love," and "Skateaway."   LOVE OVER GOLD Dire Straits added a new rhythm guitarist expanding its sounds and ambitions on the sprawling Love Over Gold. In a sense, the album is their prog rock effort, containing only five songs, including the 14-minute opener "Telegraph Road." Mark Knopfler's skilled, tasteful guitar sustains throughout atmospheric, instrumental passages.   BROTHERS IN ARMS Dire Straits' biggest selling album? In fact, one of the biggest selling albums worldwide of all time, 1985's Brothers In Arms, helped musically define a decade. A sophisticated rock masterpiece, it reached #1, stayed there nine weeks, and is nine times platinum. Contains "Money For Nothing," the song that helped immortalize the phrase "I want my MTV", hit #1, and won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance.
