Description
JOHNNY MARVIN (1897 - 1944) was a versatile entertainer and formidable musician on guitar, ukulele and many other stringed instruments. He was a star performer, especially on his late '20s Victor records, which were hugely popular. His affable personality and string virtuosity made quite an impression on the public.
BY 1931, Marvin's recording career was in trouble (along with everybody else's!) and he sought to diversify. As "DOCTOR CHEER," he brightened the air waves of NBC with his pithy advice to listeners' letters, illustrated with songs, accompanied by his trusty uke.
THIS record is a rare souvenir, a faithful re-creation of his "Dr. Cheer" radio show, with some swell songs between the patter: "Runnin' Wild," "The Lonesome Road," "Slow and Easy," "When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver" and "I Walked Back From the Buggy Ride." As people were turning away from records in favor of radio in 1931, this Victor is uncommonly scarce.
This original 1931 "Scroll" Victor 22741 is in lovely EE+ condition. No wear or scratches. Just beautiful!

My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
