DOCTOR ZYGOTE

Grupo Zygote (LP)

Black Acre

Cat: ACRELP 004. Rel: 18 Nov 13
Broken Beat/Nu Jazz/Nu Soul

Side 1 - Track 1. Alexandria Side 1 - Track 2. Beirut Dub Side 1 - Track 3. Dragon Chase Side 1 - Track 4. Raga Side 2 - Track 1. Giallo Side 2 - Track 2. Drugsy Malone Side 2 - Track 3. Lunar Dub Side 2 - Track 4. Loose

Bristol label Black Acre turn to Strange U's resident button pusher Dr Zygote to inaugurate a new series of releases themed around the concept of library music. Contemporary beat heads will probably recognise Zygote for his work as part of weirdo hip-hoppers Strange U for Eglo, yet he's no newcomer, having been entrenched in production since his teens when he seemingly dabbled in jungle. A stalwart of UK hip-hop for some 14 years, Zygote's production heritage makes him the perfect choice to kick off this series from Black Acre. Across the eight tracks, Grupo Zygote expands on this theme to embrace dub (quite prominently) and the proggy electronics of Giallo Horror favourites Goblin; the release is also notable for the lack of samples used by Zygote.
