Description
DON CHERRY RARE UNPLAYED MINT VINYL SELF-TITLED 5* 1977 HORIZON/A&M RELEASE. IT IS CURRENTLY SELLING IN THE $50-100 RANGE ACCORDING TO DISCOGS.
According to AllMusic.com this album has a Five-Star listener rating!
Don Cherry on trumpet, piano, and voice, accompanied by Charlie Haden on bass, Billy Higgins on drums and Frank Lowe on tenor sax.
Cherry's deep interest in Eastern mysticism supported by his extensive travels and immersive experiences in middle-East, Africa and Far-Eastern cultures are the key germinators of his most influential jazz stylings. Writer Stanley Crouch has annotated notes on the inside of the gatefold. In an excerpt in summarizing this recording, he says, "a sense of international non-European music made into one force by improvisation, (Don Cherry) has come up with another recording that will have a special place in your collection." And I will add, not unlike McCoy Tyner's sublime "Sahara" album!
Of note: there is a trace of shelf wear on the spine and minimal but apparent water markings on the right side back cover, and the gold imprinted Demonstration - Not For Sale on the upper left corner back cover.
