THE DON RENDELL/IAN CARR QUINTET - CHANGE IS
Lovely condition 1969 UK 1st press copy of this highly collectable jazz rarity (one of the very rarest, in fact) with gleaming vinyl and impressive STEREO sound quality throughout
Year/Label : 1969 UK COLUMBIA (Lansdowne Series) Label number : SCX 6368 Matrix numbers : YAX 3890 - 1U, YAX 3891 - 2U Stampers : 1 G, 1 AExcellent (EX) condition jet black sheen vinyl with just the occasional small and very light wispy hairline and scuff mark each only detectable under a bright light and with close inspection. There is a tiny 3mm very light scratch on B2, again non-feelable and not obvious at all, but it does result in x18 very light background rotational clicks - not loud clicks at all but listen carefully and they are there. Because of this minor blemish I would grade the condition of side 2 as excellent minus and the condition of side 1 as excellent plus - hence the overall "excellent" grading! Great condition labels - I can just about make out two small and extremely faint spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole but apart from that the labels are pristine. Note the "FACTORY SAMPLE NOT FOOR SALE" sticker on the side 1 label which, along with the earliest "1 G" and "1 A" mother stampers, helps to authenticate this copy as a very 1st UK pressing. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played. Front-side laminated, very good plus (VG+) condition Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve with firm and largely unscuffed edges (just x4 very small scuff "nicks" on the bottom edge towards the right corner); the spine is also firm with all spine text remaining perfectly intact; each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal rubbing on each, and the opening edges remain straight and taut with no fraying or foxing. The only blemishes are just a few non-obvious small (1cm or less) and very light surface laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the edges on the front side, the hint of some very mild ring wear on the front side if you view the sleeve at the right angle in the right light, a little writing on the reverse side beside the "MIRAGE" track text, a small gold sticker containing the name and address of a previous owner (this sticker is removeable), a few small and very light handling/shelf wear/age marks, and what looks like a small tear on the top flipback in the right corner which has been neatly repaired - each very minor and doing little to diminish the impressive presentation of this iconic sleeve with all colours, photos and reverse side text remaining very nicely intact. Truly excellent (EX) stereo audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, interference or distortion and not even a hint of any background crackle - outstanding for vinyl of this age. The only blemish is the aforementioned x18 very light background clicks on B3. Great tone with crystal clear instrumentation and every track a brilliant listen with a host of jazz legends including Ian Carr (trumpet and flugelhorn), Don Rendell (flute, tenor and soprano saxes), Michael Garrick (piano, harpsichord), Dave Green (bass), and Trevor Tomkins (drums) in great form. Comes with original and excellent plus condition "USE EMITEX" poly-lined inner sleeve with no edge splits, no tears or rips or edge fraying, no discolouration and barely any creasing. Super rare, especially in condition as truly impressive as this with just a few very minor blemishes only...timeless jazz!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
