DONALD BYRD Off To The Races
Blue Note 4007 MONO (1959 1st pressing)

DEEP GROOVE
RVG (double-sided)
"47 West 63rd NYC" (and "Blue Note Records Inc") (on the labels) (see scan)

with NO "Inc"/"R" on the back cover, after the label name

CONDITION:
jacket:  EX, with original shrink wrap 100% intact
record:  VG++
and the album was professionally cleaned at Needle in the Groove record store, fremont CA

since i am not familiar with just how much "surface noise" there might be on any Blue Note "first pressing" of 1959, this might be a "VG++ that plays/sounds EX" (this album was the one sole Blue Note first pressing deep groove, in a 50-ct 50's/60's jazz album find at thrift store find a year ago, all together and obviously hailing from their same original owner over in north oakland)


AUDIO TEST on mid-fidelity late 70's solid state gear:  WHOA.  wow.  holy crap!  i'm glad i don't collect "jazz" (or classical or any other kind of instrumental music, save the random surf music / hot rod instrumental albums that turn up in the thrift store, endless VG cond Ventures albums included).  this album is a MINDblower, in the "deep groove" pressing.  you're right there in the middle of the room, and the pressing quality is prettty darn amazing. 

ALSO NOTE:  there is no "P" "Ear" on the run-off groove
(which is an RVG first pressing)

which might mean = ?? = if you hack around on the internet for an hour, trying to determine (from collector blogs or websites on the Blue Note label)
just what the price guides (and almost all the blogs and websites) don't have
regards the exact / correct micro-detail about the "run off groove info" and "label address" info for Blue Note first pressings -- ok, i found just one (website) that was far the most detailed and apparently authoritative ---

and this album might be a "mutant" first pressing (from some undetermined period during 1959 where the changes to the Blue Note labels and their run-off grooves were criss-crossing. 

(as a longtime rock music fan since 1964 at age 12, i can assure you that there are many early-mid 60's "solid blue label w/silver lettering Chess Records" pressings that TOTALLY contradict what where the price guides say that the Chess labels change colors -- chuck berry to thread!)
