This collection highlights some of Ellington's work between the years of 1927 - 1940, beginning with his band's Cotton Club residency at the end of 1927. Some of the key performers during this period included Bubber Miley (trumpet); Joe Nanton (trombone); Cootie Williams (trumpet); Johnny Hodges (saxophone); and Barney Bigard (clarinet, tenor sax), to name a few.
