Collectors have long regarded her "Mondnacht" as an example of a quietly beautiful example of great singing.
Dux (whose records I collect) was a star of the Chicago Opera who retired after she wed the stockyard magnate, Richard Armor. Subsequently, Mary Garden, who ran the opera and was herself of some repute as a soprano, referred to Mrs. Armor as "the butcher's wife."
Mrs. Armor later sang for charity and on special occasions during the late 1920s and early 1930s. I've long hoped to find a broadcast of her at the 1933-4 World's Fair. Remote, in more than one sense of the word.
