Description

Some soundtrack records sell on star power alone. This one has that, but it also has one of the great cult comedy films of the 1950s behind it.

This original Decca Extended Play set features Danny Kaye performing selections from The Court Jester, the 1955 Paramount VistaVision classic that paired medieval pageantry with wordplay sharp enough to last for generations. For many collectors, the film is forever tied to the “pellet with the poison” routine, but the music is part of what gives the movie its strange, elegant charm. Sylvia Fine and Sammy Cahn wrote songs that let Kaye do what he did better than almost anyone, slipping from comedy to melody to full theatrical mischief in a matter of seconds.

What gives this set extra appeal is the format. This is not just a loose 45. It is a Decca 3-record EP package with the gatefold-style cover and interior text still present, the kind of mid-century issue that feels more like a compact archive than a simple soundtrack sampler. Film, Broadway, and Danny Kaye collectors all understand that complete early EP sets like this are far more satisfying than stray singles.

Included here are the three 7-inch records from ED-776 with the pictured cover and interior. The outer package shows age wear from handling and storage, but the records themselves are NM- and make this a notably stronger copy than the average surviving set. A terrific piece for vintage soundtrack collectors, Danny Kaye fans, or buyers building a quality 1950s stage-and-screen section.

Playback is NM-, clean and strong.
