Description

An original 1st press of 'Hunky Dory' on the UK RCA label from 1971. Matrix 3T/3T - very 1st cut. The genuine 1st press of this title as identified by the etchings...."Bobil + Rasputin". Bear in mind that when this Lp was released at Xmas in 1971 Bowie was still relatively unknown. He'd have to wait till the following year and the advent of STARDUST for the big time. Consequently these early pressings, that pre-date the big-time for Bowie, are much harder to find. The record is a lovely heavy RCA pressing with the original Titanic publishing credits. Now, please also bear in mind that very early variations of this Lp can be found with a laminated cover. This particular example comes housed in a non-laminated cover which was also available at 1st release. We have the original generic white inner sleeve and the original orange-brown lyrics sheet. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen relatively light use. Those labels look fantastic and tend to suggest the original owner was careful with his/her records. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - but nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. The audio delivered from this early copy is to die for....deep lush and with bags of transparency. Intros and inbetweens are mostly silent and the audio comes across with superb clarity. A nigh on perfect rendition...The only thing I could vaguely pick-out was just a few light static crackles during "Eight Line Poem". Now, we're not talking about anything which is remotely close to being upfront in the audio - not at all. We're talking very low-level type stuff which is only vaguely audible, at all, because it is a low-key track. Overall, and in summary, a beautiful playing copy and one, I think, it would be very hard to even match. The Lp will be placed in an anti-static inner sleeve in order to give it maximum protection during transit.
Cover (Vg+) Very difficult to find in top condition due to the way it was manufactured. But this example is pretty tidy condition. The front is clean and unaged and does not the heavy creasing or surface wear as is often found. Yes, there's very light handling and a few small stress creases around the edge. The rear is actually marginally better - very little to complain at at all. Edge wear is relatively light and the openings are still sharpish for this title. There's just a touch of wear in a couple of spots on the spine, but the text still seems to be legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Lyric Sheet (Ex-) In very nice shape with only one slight/small blemish.
Inner (Vg) A bit aged at the edges but no splits or markings.
