Description
This is an original copy of David Bowie's 1971 classic album Hunky Dory. RCA Victor, UK pressing with glossy orange labels. SF8244 (LSP 4623)
The vinyl is visually excellent . It has been played right through and carefully checked. The first thing noticeable about the vinyl is how heavy and solid it is. Plays very well with absolutely no jumps or skips. Has been cleaned. The vinyl audio is very good plus . There is the usual vinyl background surface sound between tracks, on run ins and at a few of the quieter moments. Most importantly in identifying a very early pressing of this album is the ‘Rasputin’ etching on the dead wax / runout. These identify very early original pressings which are becoming very rare and hard to come by especially in this condition
The matrix numbers are: side 1 – APRS 5947 – 2E (Stamped) A10 (Etched) /side 2 – APRS 5948 3T (Stamped) A5A (Etched) Rasputin (Etched).
The sleeve is the first matt print, Robert Stace cover with no Mainmanlogo on the back of the sleeve and is in very good condition. The later pressings again from later in 1972 /early 1973 had the Mainman logo added to the rear. The spine is fully readable, straight and square and showing no squashed signs of having been stored flat.
The labels are the original glossy orange labels only found on the first issues and not the matt orange labels found on the slightly later pressings. The labels are in excellent condition indicating how little this record has been played. There are no Mainman credits on the labels.
If you're looking for a genuine early pressing of this album, the absence of the Mainman logo from the sleeve and labels is significant as this shows how early the sleeve printing and the pressing of this vinyl are as later copies from later in 1972 / early 1973 credited Mainman on the sleeve and labels after Bowie’s then manager, Tony DeFries created the Mainman group of publishing companies. Copies of this album with no Mainman credits on the sleeve and labels can still be found but very very few with the early pressing Rasputin etching and in this overall condition.
Comes with original lyric insert which is also in excellent condition. Also included is the original inner sleeve. The vinyl will be delivered in a new white anti-static inner sleeve and the sleeve in a heavy duty protective plastic cover.
