Description
David Bowie - Hunky Dory 1st UK press
Ultra-rare absolute first edition of the first UK press - as identified by:
- laminated front cover, unlaminated back. Only the first two editions of the first press have this, later ones are all matte.
- missing Gem credit on back cover. Only this first version does not have the Gem credit, it was removed in error from the US-supplied artwork, all later editions of the 1st press have the Gem credit restored.
- Matrix numbers APRS 5947 3T, Bobil etched / APRS 5948 3T, Rasputin etched.
- More vivid colours on front cover.
- Glossy labels, rather than matte.
Lyric inner is also present.
Not a Mint copy by any means (condition description below), hence low starting price (the only one of this exact version currently showing as having sold on eBay went for CAN $2000, almost £1200!).
Vinyl G. Lots of visible marks, mostly not raised. Plays through fine, no skips, jumps or sticking and no significant repeating clicks. There is crackle throughout, audible on run-ins / outs, between tracks and during quiet sections. It is particularly noticeable on the start of Side 2. Side 1 is glossy, side 2 has a slightly 'clouded' effect. Glossy labels, very clean. So in summary, not a perfect copy at all, but plays through with crackle but without significant issues.
Sleeve VG. No splits or lifting of laminate. Very amall tear to opening edge (approx 2mm - see close-up photo). Light creasing and light edge wear, slight scuffing on corners, clean. Vintage poly-lined inner (I believe to be the original from Discogs description, but not certain), creased near one corner and small tear from inner cut-out. Lyric sheet fine, clean, no tears, light creasing.
