Description
The idea of Bowie because a rootsy opponent of commercialism is, of study course, something of a stretching, and he covers a similar ground more personally, even more ambivalently and greater influence on the album's closer, 'Memory of a Free Festival'. Over the mournful organ support without other instrumentation, this individual ruefully reflects "It was ragged and naive, that was heaven". The track is a beginning study of the clash between flaws of youth culture and its irresistible attractions that was to later contact form one of many conceptual tent-poles of Ziggy Stardust.
'... Oddity' itself remains an outstanding song; for the surface, really markedly ambivalent about the United States' victory in the space race, and given the jubilation that surrounded the event, is usually an outstanding metaphor for sociable alienation, and a prescient look forward to Bowie's deeply conflicted relationship with the fame and attachement he was to acquire inside the 70s. Nevertheless, the true stand-outs will be the tracks which virtually all evidently point the approach forward.
