Up for auction is an extremely rare very first 1970 US White Label Promo copy of David Bowie-The Man Who Sold The World. This title was first released in the US in November 1970 and wasn't released in the UK until April 1971. The majority of "original US pressings" with the orange Mercury Records label are in fact counterfeit and it is very difficult to differentiate between that and a genuine orange Mercury label pressing. However, a white label promotional copy is always a genuine pressing from the first of the first stampers. For a 51 year old LP that was initially issued to a radio station prior to the November 4, 1970 release date, this is an exceptionally clean copy. The vinyl is visually graded EX with a few minor paper scuffs and hairlines on both sides that are only noticeable under direct strong light. There are two conspicuous very narrow marks between 1/2 inch-1 inch (one on side A and one on side B) that do not detract from the overall sound quality of the LP. The overall play grade of the vinyl is a solid EX with intermittent minor surface noise which is only noticeable between tracks and during the VERY few "quieter segments" on one of the heaviest albums ever recorded, especially for 1970. Many (myself included) consider this to be Bowie's heavy metal offering...an absolute MONSTER of an album that demands top volume as I'm sure most of you reading this are already aware of. The cover is graded as VG with discoloration on both sides and a little bit of seam splitting. Surprisingly, the spine is in excellent shape and is fully legible (PLEASE SEE AND ZOOM IN ON PHOTOS). The white label on side one has discoloration as you can see and the label on side 2 is practically flawless. Comes with generic original inner sleeve.
