This album, like the man who made it, is unclassifiable. The late Davy Graham is often pigeon-holed as a folk/blues artist, but he was much more than that. There are a couple of blues here - the tradition "How Long, How Long" and his original, "Blues For Betty", there is a classic ballad, "Cry Me A River", and a calypso, "Yellow Bird". There is Ray Charles' "Hallelujah, I love her so", and a couple of film tunes, including the theme from "Exodus". And there are three jazz pieces - Sonny Rollins' "Don't Stop The Carnival", Nat & Cannonball Adderley's "Sermonette" and Paul Desmond's "Take Five". The inclusion of those three, plus the fact that there is a jazz feel to everything Davy Graham ever played, led me to list the album under "jazz", because "Davy Graham" wasn't an option. Recorded and issued in 1963, this is an exclusively instrumental LP on which Graham's phenomenal guitar playing is accompanied solely by Bobby Graham on drums. The sleeve has a strip of sellotape at the top, though it does not appear to have split. A DJ at the BFBS Radio Station in Gibraltar has ticked several of the track titles in pencil, but the sleeve is generally in very decent condition. The record is in excellent condition, but has a sticker on the label bearing the date 14-2-64, when the BFBS station received it.
