Description
Dead Kennedys' last studio album, Bedtime For Democracy, may not be as consistently brilliant as Fresh Fruit.. or Plastic Surgery.., but contains my favourite ever DK track: "Take This Job And Shove It", which has been my internal soundtrack on a number of occasions over the years.
This is the original 1986 vinyl album (Alternative Tentacles, VIRUS 50), and to mark the half-century of subversiveness, this was released in a gatefold sleeve, with two inserts: one is the usual collage of newsprint, adverts and photos used to great sarcastic effect in every DK album release.
The other is a document detailing the legal storm over censorship that had erupted after the band included a poster of H.R. Giger's "Something Landscape" (not its actual title) in their previous album, Frankenchrist, and were judged to be "distributing pornography". This grew into a huge legal battle in the US against censorship, with the DKs (and a growing number of musicians and artists) fighting for freedom of speech in the most repressive conservative political climate in the US since the 1950s. And they won, which is why we are still enjoying diverse music that can challenge authority, stereotypes, ignorance, bigotry etc., as well as allowing music that expresses ignorance, bigotry etc. Freedom of speech is just that.
The 'Censorship' insert folds out into a huge document and is a significant part of Rock/Censorship history. It is in pristine condition, so might be a bit of a rarity given the thin 'newsprint' type paper it's printed on.

I played this record once to record it to cassette, and this was never my most-played DK album even on tape, so I don't think I played the vinyl at all after that. If I did, it was once or twice at most.
The gatefold sleeve has discolouration on the spine, which you can see in the photos, so I would conservatively rate the cover as VG.
The inserts have been unfolded on exactly two occasions (once after buying the album, once again recently when reviewing collection for listing details), so they are pretty much pristine.
