Description

Deep Purple: Levi’s Rock, 5 LP vinyl mail order only box set. Unique MK IV live pic sleeve

CBS Special Products: Cat No. LSP 14513

Mail order only, originally £11.99 and requiring Levis product proof of purchase, front logo loosely tied in with Rainbow Theatre 50th celebrations in March of 1980.

When originally bought (new) played a fair few times, well you can’t argue with the track selection, particularly  disc 3, ? .

Was eventually retired to shelf life and replaced by CDs…only to now surface.

Outer box sleeve is in pretty good condition for age (1980!), heavy card construction, as is common with these sort of packaging the corners do suffer as weak points with typical  scuffing from shelf wear, most noticeable top left hand corner.

There is also a 70mm snag along the leading edge of the upper left hand side.

The good news is that the front image of the Purps is unaffected and remains in very good condition with strong colour sand only the slightest surface marks to the outer UV finish.

Rear of box sleeve overall very good condition with only defect a split to the  top right hand corner.

Slight smudge to the bottom right hand corner with brown mark extending up the box edge.

Original inner sleeves in very good order with minor handling  marks only.

Album condition:

Disc 1: appears visually in very good condition, bright glossy lustre and light hairlines only. Light spidery spindle marks, odd finger smudge.

Disc 2: appears visually in very good condition, bright glossy lustre and light hairlines only. Light spidery spindle marks, odd finger smudge.

Disc 3: appears visually in pretty good condition (played more than the others), bright glossy lustre and number of hairlines, no heavy or deep scratching. Light spidery spindle marks, odd finger smudge.

Disc 4: appears visually in pretty good condition, bright glossy lustre and number of hairlines, (with small cluster on Beach Boys Good Vibrations for some reason!), no heavy or deep scratching. Light spidery spindle marks, odd finger smudge.

Disc 5: appears visually in very good condition, bright glossy lustre and light hairlines and odd finger smudges only. Light spidery spindle marks.

Lets be honest great though the track selection is…it’s all about the MK IV cover…nice.

Selling on behalf of my Dad (who supplied all the info) from his personal collection, from the olden days when he collected vinyl.

I aim to use recycled packaging when possible, but rest assure that your vinyl will be well packed and protected against the trials of postal travel!

Important perspective info, please read….thanks ?.

A few words about the vinyl grading.

I try to be as honest as possible, but all grades are based upon an experienced but ultimately subjective visual inspection, trying to identify and highlight obvious issues.

Back in the day whilst my Dad purchased much of the vinyl new, as he expanded his collection, (eventually running into a few thousand discs) hence many only played once, inevitably he was drawn to second hand (pre-loved) copies of certain discs, including the rarer original 1970’s issue boots.

As you will appreciate, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this or looking at the listing, the nature of many of these live/unofficial recordings meant that original production standards were not necessarily a top priority, with occasional mastering/pressing faults occurring.

Similarly with any second hand vinyl which in some cases is almost 50 years old they will potentially exhibit aural signs of having been played, sometimes a fair bit..these are not mint, new unplayed discs (unless stated).

The attraction for my Dad was either obtaining the different variations of an issue or otherwise unavailable rare recordings…its called collecting!

When playing vinyl my Dad had a Technics SL1800 turntable with Ortfon cartridge, so no thrashing and grinding on an old  fidelity UA4! (early 70’s starter bedroom lo-fi, crank it up ?).

Didn't the UK and EU sign a free-trade deal?

Yes, but the UK-EU Free Trade deal agreed on December 24th 2020 means that duties will not be payable on the vast majority of goods moving between the UK and EU. However, duties and VAT are different things, and this does not impact on the VAT measures detailed above.
