Del-Fi 4110 La Bamba Donna Ritchie Valens 45rpm 7” 1958
The condition of this record is excellent. When played there is surprisingly very little background noise. This record was only wiped with Daru’s discwasher.
“Donna” is a song sung by Ritchie Valens. The song was released in 1958 on Del-Fi Records. It reached 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the following year, becoming Valens' highest-charting single.
It was written as a tribute to his high school sweetheart Donna Ludwig.
“La Bamba” is a Mexican folk song, originally from the state of Veracruz, best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, went to 22 on the top 40 hits in the U.S. charts
and is one of rock and roll's best-known classic songs.
After this record, his posthumous releases never hit the Top 40.
The plan for the first pressing label was "Del-Fi" in 'gothic' styled letterings at the top of the label, with no other graphics in solid blue or green background. The demand for this was go great that the older stock still available, the black and aqua design with circles was used till gone. All three are nevertheless original pressings from the fall of 1958. Our dark green label is believed to be a short second pressing as the other labels were gone before the new labels in that appeared in 1959 were ready. The darker blue circles and saw tooth designs came in 1959 and later. If you can find a light gray label, it is the rarest of all.
