Description

An original and  very earliest 1st press of LAYLA on UK Polydor from 1970. Matrix A1/B2-A1/B2 [1st cut]. Earliest copies come with flat labels [not-ridged]. But you can sometimes find the very 1st earliest copies with a different publishing for 'Have You Ever Love A Women'. I don't know the story behind it but the very earliest copies went out with 'Peter Maurice' - instead of 'Lark Music' - as you find on ALL other copies. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MacNeill gatefold cover. We also have both original 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeves from the time. So, that's 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In super condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. A beautiful player - very nice and clean.. it's an absolute banger! Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Very impressive. Even the super fussy track 'I Am Yours' plays really clean. And so does 'Thorn Tree'. These are by far the fussiest darn tracks on the whole album - so a good benchmark for how good the copy is. I'm only picking out a few crackles in one brief isolated spot per side. That is a superb strike rate! The deviation - a couple of minor ticks in 'I Am Yours'. Very brief and very slight [no big deal at all]. If you need a quality high end audio copy this example will knock-the ball-outta-the park for you.
Cover (Vg+) Lovely clean and flat front with just a sticker removal mark extreme top right, and a miniscule blemish on the ""cheek"" . The rear exhibits a touch of surface wear top and bottom - as is common on this title. The interior is superb - no issues at all. Just a bit of light edge wear in places and the openings are still sharp. The spine is in excellent order with minimal wear. All text fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine specimen.
Inners (Vg+) Light ageing. Bag present. No splits.
