Description
-Artist / Group: Deverons
-Burton Cummings has been in only two bands during his entire musical career : the Guess Who, and before that, the Deverons.
-The Deverons originally played instrumentals only and covered numbers by the likes of the Fireballs, Ventures, Chantays and so on. When Burton first auditioned for the Deverons he sang Donna, Come On Let's Go and Bonie Maronie from a Ritchie Valens album. Even though he was allowed to join, the Deverons remained essentially an instrumental group and Burton would have a chance to sing only a few times during their earliest performances. The Deverons lineup when Burton was singing with them comprised of Edd Smith (guitar), Boris Pawluk (guitar), Derek Blake (guitar), and John Gach (drums) at this time there was no electric bass player. Burton eventually bought a saxophone and a few weeks later the boys let him play his sax on stage. Burton was now playing the sax and singing so was having to leave the stage less and less during their performances.
-The Deverons lineup by early 1964 had changed considerably with Ron Savoie now on drums, Edd Smith on bass, Derek Blake on lead guitar, Bruce Decker on rhythym guitar and Burton Cummings on vocals and piano. With this lineup in place, things then became better for the Deverons. in 1965 Daryl Burlingham manouvered the group into CKY radio's back studio and they recorded four cuts. The fours cuts were " She's My Lover " (written by Burton Bummings) b/w " Blue Is The Night " and also Yes I Do b/w Leave Her Alone. The rest is history !
-Titles: She's Your Lover / Blue Is The Night, which is the first Deveron's 45 and was pressed in very small numbers.
-A historical Canadian recording with significance; Burton Cummings in his only Pre-Guess Who band, his first recording ever, and his first composition ever to be recorded !
