Description
THE BEATLES' Die Beatles (Rare 1964 1st pressing on the German red 'HorZu' label, STEREO ). This record is the German equivalent of 'Please, Please Me', but has a unique laminated picture sleeve with a red 'HorZu' logo SHZE117, as it was manufactured in limited numbers in co-operation with the German TV magazine 'Hor-Zu'. The vinyl is in superb Mint condition with no evidence of having ever been played. It is immaculate, and there are no spindle marks on the deep pink coloured labels. SHZE 117-A-1 / B-1 matrix numbers. For a Beatles' record manufactured in the early 1960's to survive in this condition is truly remarkable.
The vinyl lies totally flat. The highest level of care was taken to avoid paper scuffs when removing the record from the inner sleeve for the photography. All photographs are of the actual items.
The sleeve does display some flaws; largely superficial storage wear, minor corner ' push-ins ' and a little scuffing. There is some barely noticeable impressions of the record at the front and the back due to the quite heavy vinyl. There is some yellowing at the edges of the thin pasted sleeve notes at the back of the sleeve. A very minor part of the thin pasted sleeve note sheet is no longer stuck down in one corner, and has become creased. The photograph and a little of the type on the pasted sleeve note sheet betray some mild scuffing. The opening edges are firm with no trace of feathering, indicating that the vinyl has rarely seen the light of day. The inner sleeve is a generic white lined inner with no type, not typical of a HORZU original inner sleeve. The spine is in fine condition. This is still a VERY GOOD+ to EXCELLENT example sleeve.
In summary, this edition of Die Beatles (Please Please Me) consists of the following:
. An ORIGINAL beautifully laminated deeply glossy Sleeve, in EXCELLENT- condition. Vivid colours are still bright and unfaded.
. One ORIGINAL flawless, very glossy and totally unmarked VINYL LP in MINT condition. No marks, no spindle lines, no sign of handling on either side!
Graded to UK Record Collector magazine standards.
NB. Grading: The vinyl is in mint condition, in my opinion. However, you may disagree, if you are hyper-critical. This pressing is over 45 years old, and it would be foolish to claim absolute perfection above and beyond what can be expected of a fragile item of this vintage. It has not been locked away since the day it was manufactured. Minor flaws on the sleeve are so minor that a very good plus grading would be harsh.
