VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The three records in this album do NOT match the original contents of the album. The records were released in the same year (1946) by the same label (Disc Company of America) and contain the same type of music (Calypso). The three records that were originally in this album are not part of the sale. Please see below for details.
Up for sale is a rare 78 album with three rare 10 inch, shellac Calypso 78 RPM records. In order to understand what I am offering, you need to know that the Disc Company of America (Disc, New York) issued two separate Calypso albums (each with 3 records) in 1946.
The first album was announced on page 36 of the February 16, 1946 issue of The Billboard:

The cover illustration for the Disc 614 album was done by the renowned David Stone Martin. He was born in 1913 and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He gained fame in the 1940s (and later) for his cover art illustrations (done primarily on jazz albums) on the Asch, Dial, Disc, and Mercury labels. Martin worked primarily with a crowquill pen, which he used to execute very delicate line art. He also did magazine covers for Time, Seventeen, and The Saturday Evening Post. His art is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. Martin died in 1992. You can see his signature near the bottom of the illustration on the front cover of the album (see photo #2).
The three soloists [Macbeth (The Great), Duke of Iron, and Lord Invader] were all prominent Calypsonians who had emigrated to New York, where there was a thriving market for Calypso music. They were rivals who competed vigorously and often disparaged each other, perhaps in jest, perhaps not. In fact, I was able to find online a very interesting recording, issued in 1946 (the same year that Disc issued these records) in which each of them hurls insults at the other two. It was a rough and tumble environment, resembling in some ways the competition between modern hip hop artists.
