PLEASE NOTE: I WILL ONLY GRADE AN OPENED LP NEAR MINT (NM) IF I CAN GUARANTEE IT HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED (i.e. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER). OTHERWISE, NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) IS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST GRADE I WILL ASSIGN AN OPENED LP.
HIDEOUSLY rare private pressing of some dynamite, funky soul jazz recorded at Edward Dwight Eaton Chapel, Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin on October 15th, 1969!! I have been collecting funk and soul for over 40 years and NEVER seen another copy of this LP. Ever. I have contacted every trusted hardcore funk, soul & jazz collector & dealer I know and none of them had ever heard of this LP before. Not one. I have owned this LP for 20+ years and I still don't know who Don Carson is or who any of the other members of his quartet are. There are absolutely zero Google hits and not one Discogs entry for this LP, his name or with his quartet. A shame he didn't commit more music to vinyl as this LP smokes. AMAZING sound quality, unlike most privately pressed LPs of this kind that sound as if they were recorded in a muddy closet. This LP sounds like it was recorded professionally with high end gear with all the instruments miked up perfectly and mixed by a well seasoned pro. Sonically reminiscent of a classic live Blue Note or Verve recording. I have posted the full 8+ minutes of Watermelon Man on Soundcloud and snippets of 2 original compositions, Annie In A Circle and October Samba for all to hear as the music speaks for itself. Listen at https://soundcloud.com/user-536209246/don-carson-quartet-watermelon-man for the complete Watermelon Man and https://soundcloud.com/user-536209246/don-carson-quartet-annie-in-a-circle-snippet and https://soundcloud.com/user-536209246/don-carson-quartet-october-samba-snippet for sound samples of 2 of the 3 original compositions on this LP. Vinyl is VG++ with a few light paper scuffs and generic white cover has a hint of ring and a tiny stain near the spine on the rear. NO splits, seams, creases or bends and four sharp corners!!
I USE GOLDMINE GRADING: MINT (SEALED) NEAR MINT: LOOKS UNPLAYED VG++: VERY VERY MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE VG+: AVERAGE SIGNS OF USE, NOTHING DEEP, SUPERFICIAL VG: STILL AN OK RECORD, NOISE BETWEEN SONGS GOOD: WORN BUT PLAYS FINE WITH DISTRACTING NOISE POOR: FILLER COPY ONLY. LOTS OF SCRATCHES
