This LP is one of the classic British post bop masterpieces of this now legendary quintet.
Highly regarded and highly sought after this LP is an essential addition to any self-respecting jazz lover's collection.
Since acquiring it many years ago I have treated it with the utmost care but feel the time has come to let it find a new home.
This is a very rare LP-I have only been able to find a handful that have sold in the last 10 years or more.
The sleeve: It's unlaminated black and white image is very prone to rubbing and ring wear and while this example hasn't been spared either
the incidence of both these is less than average. There are, however the following faults:
Top left- hand corner has had a bump and as a result the corner is slightly bent as is the spine in that area.
The upper edge has been glued sightly off square. I had not even noticed this until I came to take these photographs,
thinking the black on the rear flipback was just printed off square. See the last photo for a close view.
This manufacturing error does not in any way inhibit the free removal of the inner sleeve.
The spine has suffered rubbing to the front edge and overall is somewhat darkened.
The text is clearly legible but the a & r of Carr are missing as are part of the n in Rendell and the e in Quintet. See the close up photo.
Other than the aforementioned slight bend to the upper inch or so, the spine is straight and uncompressed.
The opening edge is near perfect. No dents or feathering and perfectly straight and flat. One or two minor nicks to the bottom 2 inches-photo
Upper and lower edges show minimal to no wear.
The rear sleeve with it's black and white layout is also susceptible to damage.
There are few dark foxing spots and an area to the top right which has a stain, possibly tea? See photo
Other than that all the text is clean and legible. No writing or other damage. All flipbacks are stuck down.
See photo for all pertinent text details relating to it's manufacture.
The original company paper inner sleeve is in very good condition having neither tears nor splits
just a gentle age darkened edge and a couple of foxing spots.
And so to the vinyl. The sleeve has done it's job as the disc itself is in exceptional condition! At first sight it appears near mint as do the labels!
Even in bright daylight or under halogen lamp I was unable to detect the presence of any scuffs.
Very close inspection revealed a small hairline of 5 mm to each side but these are surface only and did not reveal themselves during playback.
I have play graded the record prior to writing this on my reasonably high-end system that is very unforgiving to noise, clicks, distortion
and all the other audio artifacts that vinyl is prone to.
This disc, being nearly a half century in age now, sounds a lot better than some I have bought new this year!
The record lies perfectly flat on the platter and has a wonderful just pressed sheen to it.
As much as I'd like to write about the playback I find the idea of describing sound a little like dancing about architecture. It is fairly pointless.
If there were faults worth noting, even if they didn't detract from listening pleasure I would note them.
The labels are both in superb near mint condition. Hardly any sign of wear -just a tiny spindle trace to side one.
Please feel free to ask for any other details I may have overlooked or extra photos if needed.
I am an experienced seller of vinyl records and guarantee a fast and safe journey for the record in a strong cardboard box.
Of course I will remove the disc from the sleeve and house it in a new poly-lined inner.
The sleeve will be placed, as it has been in my racks, in a new clear pvc protecting sleeve also.
I will post worldwide but if you live in a far flung outpost or on an island please contact me advance to ensure that I can offer the best rate!
Note to UK buyers. I have to offer flat standard rate but will only post the record with tracked delivery from France.
I do not offer a money back guarantee as I worry that damage might occur to the item while out of my hands.
Suffice it to say I guarantee that you will not be disappointed by this record but if the actual item differs in any
significant way from how I have described or illustrated it then Ebay offers plenty of protection for buyers.
Please read and study the description and photos carefully before entering into the purchase.
Please note that my hitherto long established 100% feedback
has taken a dip as a result of one unsatisfied customer who refused to ask for a refund through the proper procedures.
There is no need for negative feedback if Ebay's more than adequate buyer protection is used correctly.
