Description

Donald Byrd, “Byrd’s Word” on Savoy MG 12032.  Fabulous copy.  Vinyl in NM-, totally clean and glossy, slightest sleeve wear.  Sounds amazing.  Cover is NM on front, probably VG+ on back.  I only mention because there are a couple of stains from age on the back.  A truly top copy of this session:  Byrd on trumpet, Frank Foster tenor, Hank Jones piano, “Dave” Chambers bass (he’s listed correctly as Paul in the liner notes) and Kenny Clarke drums.  Dr. Van Gelder recorded the session and he wrote in dead wax RVG (not stamped).  Along with his initials and the serial # is “X20,” the # “1” and the letter “B”across from it.  Same on both sides.

I try my best to grade records conservatively.  If there is anything “awry” with the record, I will explain it as best I can.  My scale is as follows:

M:  Mint.  This means that the record is still sealed.  This grade only applies to vinyl (as covers still receive some wear even being sealed)
M-:  Mint-minus.  For records and covers that have been opened but obviously never touched or touched so infrequently that no wear is present
NM:  Near Mint.  A nearly perfect record.  Perhaps one or two absolutely superficial marks/wear.  Will play perfectly with no noise
NM-:  Near Mint-minus.  Some wear is becoming evident under direct sun light.  Essentially the same as NM except slightly more of the superficial wear
VG+:  Very Good-plus.  A record that has a few light marks sporadically, but does not affect play.  There may be some light crackling, but nothing distracting.
VG:  Very Good.  Your typical record.  Shows some wear around the spindle hole, a couple of marks, and audible tics/crackling at times.  Plays well; used but not abused
VG-:  Very Good-minus.  A record that shows wear; it was obviously played frequently but by someone who still cared for it.  The difference between this and VG is usually the frequency of noise (or noise potential)
G:  Good.  A well loved record.  Playable, but it has seen better days
F:  Fair.  Quite a lot of wear on these.  Wouldn’t be listed unless very rare
P:  Poor.  Really only worth having if it’s very rare.  Possibly unplayable

Shipping for records within the US is $4 a record, $1 each additional up to seven, then it starts over again.  Overseas shipping is $10 a record, $2 each additional record, etc.  $8 to Canada, $1.50 each additional.

Insurance available upon request. If the record doesn’t fit the description I made in the listing, then you may return it.  Keep in mind I can only refund bid price, and only after I have received the record in the condition I sent it; I am unable to refund shipping costs.  Please note:  No refunds on sealed records.
